The Black Swan is a basement venue situated within the Newcastle Arts Centre Courtyard.  The entrance to Newcastle Arts Centre Courtyard is a large high doorway in the yellow building next door to their art shops on Westgate Road. You will see the Black Swan sign above the doorway.

Once inside the courtyard, the entrance to the Black Swan venue is under the large glass porch to your left, and a steward will be there to help with any directions or access needs.

You can view a gallery of exterior and interior  photos of the venue below.

We have arranged for a portable induction loop system and this will support your hearing if you have an aid with a T or Loop program.

The loop will surround an area in the ROW SEATING in front of the stage. PLEASE TELL US IN THE 'ACCESS REQUIREMENTS' BOX if this is requirement for any of your group so we can arrange seating in this area for you. (Once you have selected your tickets, the box will show on the following booking pages.)

We are very glad to have the support of a BSL interpreter for the performances.

PLEASE TELL US IN THE 'ACCESS REQUIREMENTS' BOX when you come to book your tickets if this be a requirement of any of your group, so we can seat you in the most suitable area for the best sight lines for the show and the interpreter.  (Once you have selected your tickets, the box will show on the following booking pages.)

Together with the Black Swan, we are please to have made some adjustments to the space to enable up to 2 wheelchair users to access the event in the ROW SEATING area in front of the stage. We offer complimentary tickets for authorised carers.

A steward will be there to show you to the 'service lift' which has room for a user of a standard-sized wheelchair, and one person standing.

Another steward will meet you when you come out of the lift into the basement, and take you through a short corridor to the main theatre, and to your seating area which will be at the end of one of the rows close to where you entered.

The basement bar is on a stepped mezzanine level, therefore either one of your group can go to the bar on your behalf, or a member of bar staff or a volunteer can take your order at your seat and bring it to you. N.B. Please bring CASH if you need drinks orders at your seat as the ‘Bar Wi-fi’ for credit card payments does not reach into the theatre.

An 'accessible toilet' is on the first-floor level, opposite the service lift you used to enter. Our steward will be situated nearby at the door you entered to show you back to the lift, and ready to assist you at any time you need should need help.

In the case of an emergency, wheelchair users will be assisted to the evacuation point.

Our stewards will also be on hand to assist you to exit the venue the way you came. If you wish to go outside during the interval for some fresh air or if you are a smoker, then please just let our steward know, and they will be happy to assist you.
