Improv for Young People in Newcastle (Coming Soon)

A playful, inclusive improv programme for young people - coming soon to Boho.

We’re developing a new School of Improv programme for young people, building on everything we’ve learned through our work in schools, youth theatres and in the community over many years, and family-friendly performances like Rat Race and Picture Palace.

This will be a space for creativity, confidence, collaboration and connection - where young people can play, express themselves, and grow in a supportive, non-competitive environment.

We’re developing this programme now. Join the waiting list to be the first to hear updates and opportunities to get involved.

Why improv for young people?

Improvisation helps young people develop skills that matter far beyond the stage: confidence, communication, empathy, adaptability and creative thinking. It encourages listening, collaboration, and resilience - and gives young people permission to be playful, curious and fully themselves.

At Boho, we believe improv can be especially powerful for young people growing up in an increasingly pressured world. Our approach is supportive, inclusive and people-centred — focused on wellbeing as much as performance.

This programme is being developed for:

  • young people who enjoy creativity, storytelling or performance

  • those who want to build confidence and social skills

  • young people who may not thrive in competitive or high-pressure environments

  • families looking for inclusive, values-led creative opportunities

No prior performance experience will be needed.

Why now?

Until now, Boho hasn’t had a suitable, consistent space to run a regular improv programme for young people.

Our work has always been rooted in safety, inclusion and trust - and for children and teenagers, that means more than just a room for hire. It means a space that is welcoming, accessible, properly set up, and able to offer continuity week after week.

That’s about to change.

From autumn, Boho will open the doors to our Inclusive Creative Arts Hub - a permanent home designed specifically for participatory arts, learning and community connection. For the first time, we’ll have a safe, dedicated environment where young people can attend regularly, settle in, and truly belong.

In the meantime, we’re keen to begin gently.

Before the Hub opens, we’re planning a small number of taster sessions and one-off workshops — a chance to test ideas, meet families, and start shaping the programme together.

Joining the waiting list helps us understand demand and ensures you’ll hear first about pilot sessions and early opportunities as they become available.

Where will the Hub be?

The Hub will be easy to get to. Near Centre for Life and just a short walk from Newcastle Central Station and Metro, you'll find the Hub at 66076 Scotswood Rod NE4 7JE
